I am moving from Chicago to Texas. Please discuss Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, and Waxahachie. I'm looking to purchase a small home approximately 1800sqft to 2700 sqft.

Cedar Hill is a NICE, NICE community - nearly luxurious. It's about 70% black (most cities just south of Dallas are), the rest being white & hispanic, and the schools are good.

Grand Prairie is a nice community too, but not nearly as nice as Cedar Hill. I don't know the demographics of Grand Prairie exactly - but it is a nice mix of everyone - white, black and hispanic. It is especially nice along I-20, going south down toward Joe Pool Lake.

Waxahachie is a slightly smaller "country feeling" town, further south of Dallas. It has great schools, is probably 65-70% white, the rest hispanic, black, whatever. It will probably be 15-30 years before the metroplex expands all the way that far south. And they have a neat downtown area.

Hopefully that helps.

Hi bskinner,

1800-2700 sq. ft. homes in nice neighborhoods aren't difficult to find in any of those communities.

It would be very helpful to us if you could answer a few of the following questions:

Are you looking to rent or buy a home?
What is your price range?
What other amenities are you looking for in a city or particular neighborhood? (shopping, recreation, etc.)

Once we know a little more about what you are looking for, we can provide more detailed responses.

Thanks.

Here is the full racial demographic breakdown for Cedar Hill, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2006-2008 American Community Survey is 46.7% African American, 39.6% White, 2.7% Asian, 0.1% American Indian and Alaska Native, 8.8% Some other race, 2.1% Two or more races, and 16.9% Hispanic or Latino (who can be of any race).

I agree that it is a nice community.
