Try the Work In Texas job board. You might get some links there.

RNs usually make between $25 and $30 hourly.

The only bad thing about Frisco is that it is a LONG way from the major hospitals, so you will have a long commute. Baylor's main campus is in Dallas, as is Medical City, UT Southwestern, St Paul, etc. Plano has a couple of regional hospitals, but they are not nearly as large. If you moved further south, you would be closer to the big hospitals, and have better job opportunities. You might also consider getting the job first, then deciding where to live. There are also several big hospitals over in Fort Worth, but you would not want to drive there from Frisco on a daily basis.

Also, start the process to get your TX temp license ASAP. Although you can technically come from a compact state and work on an out-of-state license for 30 days, the hospitals prefer you to have the TX temp. You only get 90 DAYS on those, so DO NOT put off getting the fingerprints, etc. done, and be sure to send everything to the BON with a tracking number!

Christie gives good advice.

Just FYI -- there are some *major* regional hospitals in the Plano area. Medical Center Plano is a Level II Trauma Center -- a friend works there in the ER and she makes more than $30 per hour (I think it depends on what your specialty is).

There also is Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, which is home to the Texas Spine Institute. People from all over the nation go here for advance spinal surgery. Children's Hospital also is in Plano.

Another friend (a nurse anesthetist) lives in The Colony and works at Parkland. She says it isn't a bad commute, but her shifts often do not coincide with rush hour.

Best of luck!

But if I was hurt, I'd want to go to a real hospital in Dallas instead of one of those branches.

Frisco is pretty far north - some people joke about it being in Oklahoma.. I don't know about a Children's Hospital up north but the main one is in Dallas, next to Parkland Hospital, Zale-Lipshy, Southwestern Medical School/St. Paul Hospital and a few blocks from the Scottish Rite Hospital.

An ideal place for you to live would be in the Uptown, Downtown or Knox-Henderson areas - from there those mentioned above would be just to the west and:

to the east you have Baylor Hospital and University Medical Center, to the northeast Presbyterian Hospital, to the north Medical City and to the southwest, Methodist Hospital. Also there are two large medical office complexes on Central Expressway (75) south of LBJ Loop (635)

Me, too. Baylor University Medical Center (aka "Big Baylor") is a Level 1 trauma center, and that is where you want to go for almost any injury. (Parkland's excellent burn unit is the notable exception.)

Dallas Medical center (formerly RHD) is now owned by Doctors. It is a great place to work. Small with a family feeling. We need nurses and Techs in all areas for this growing hospital. It is located off of 635 and Webb Chappel. Centrally located. Tell them Darla Smith sent U!!!!
