I definitely consider it the south. And trust me, where I'm living now (Michigan - ick) people around here certainly think it's the south.

I just moved to MI a couple of weeks ago, and I was born and raised in Dallas. This is like living on a different planet, to me. There is no sweet tea, they serve Pepsi everywhere, there is no Chick-fil-A in the entire state, and they DO NOT HAVE CORN TORTILLAS anywhere! So yes, I think Dallas is part of the south.

I lived in Atlanta and now in Dallas. I would say that Dallas is a southern city with a dual west and east coast flare that can seem to supress its southern style. If you have to compare it to any other city in the country it would match up with Atlanta and Charlotte. (Good and Bad). Coming from the deep south (South Carolina) finding good sweet tea has been an issue. Blacks in ATL, St. Louis and in Dallas speak about the same (here, there, hair). It is one thing that still irritates me and I am a southern black.

If you remove the transplant you would have a bible beating southern city. That is the foundation of Dallas and I don't think that will change no matter how many people from Cali, NY, DC, Arizona, ect... move here.

If you can say "Hey, Y'all" and people respond with a "How y'all doin' " you are definantly in "THE SOUTH" not the southwest, midwest or the plain, but THE SOUTH.

I guess Houston is the south then because that is all I hear. I walk into Timmy Chan's or Popeyes and that is how I am greeted.

My whole family has roots in Lufkin area which is deep in the piney woods of East Texas. I believe that East Texas feels more like Dixie than Dallas area does. My whole family migrated from Alabama, Louisana and Georgia over the years to East Texas and with them I still feel that the culture is still inbedded. My own grandmother's biscuits were a family tradition passed down from the 1800's. Even the way they speak in East Texas is different. I don't hear I am FIXIN to do this or that here or purdy. For me Dallas has it's own culture, it's own spin and to me does correlate into being a true Texan city with western/ farming ties/beef bbq/. To me it feels more Texan than southern.
