Are you going to full time at BUMC or Parkland? I would want to live closer to the one I was going to work FT at. BUMC and Parkland are about 5 miles apart, but they are both deep in the the inner core of Dallas. The immediate surrounding areas are not really suburban ideal for kids. Richardson is good but you have to be careful what schools in RISD you pick cuz there are a few crappy ones. Depending where you live in Richardson, you may have a minimum 45 minute commute to work.

If you're gonna be more at Parkland, the best options to me would be:

University Park: Perfectly located 2 miles from Parkland and 4 from BUMC, great schools, but pricey. Check it out, you might find a good deal.
Mid-Cities: Plenty of options here, only I don't know the Mid-Cities, someone else will have to chime in.
Richardson: convenient enough mostly good school but some suck so check 'em out carefully. Rule of thumb south side of Richardson - commute good, school ?
West Plano or Frisco: Up the Tollway, longer commute but definitely the planned neighborhoods you are thinking of can be found here. If your shift starts at 7am traffic should (usually) be no problem - figure a half hour - 40 minutes. After 7am, a lot longer.

If you're gonna be a BUMC nurse FT and Parkland PT you could choose to live right up 75 or even east of Dallas. That of course won't help you with UTA, I guess it just depends on exactly how much time you spend in either place. I don't really recommend living up 75. The commute on 75 to BUMC is hellish though at 630am it might be ok. 75 & 190 and north is what you want for schools and communities, but that's minimum 45 minutes to Parkland. East you could do some parts of Garland. Maybe Sunnyvale, looks nice, not to far out, but I don't really know that town. Further out but reputable is Rowlett and Rockwall. They have Lake Ray Hubbard as an amenity but that's getting out there pretty far.

All in all, I'd say:
University Park first choice if possible.
Mid-Cities second choice.
Richardson, West Plano, Frisco 3rd for PKL.
Richardson, GARL, Sunnyvale Rowlett, Rockwall 3rd choice if BUMC

No prob. I should however say one thing about the mid-cities, and that is some of those places are very nice and some are very not. So check carefully around there. Mainly from this board I have learned that Irving, Carollton, and maybe Grand Prairie all have some sketchy spots. Addison is college kid party town. Oh and the whole area right around Parkland is definitely not nice - you'll see when you get there. One the hospital campus it's fine, but you'll see - the whole area around there is chock full of zombies. Please be aware.

BUMC has a bit of homeless floating around too but it's not nearly as wild as the Parkland side.

Oh and put Lakewooder's suggestions on your list. He definitely knows this area real well.
