Hello Texans

I'm new here. I never visited Texas before. I am a late 20's male.

I am relocating to Dallas, but I will be travelling for business Mon-Thurs. to Chicago. So I only be at Dallas Fri-Sun.

I just need a inexpensive place around $500 or so. I have been looking at Craigslist and there are a lot of realtor's postings.

I need to live close to the airport, but not out of sync with 20-somethings living.

Any suggestions?

Either a 1 bedroom furnished or 2 bedroom furnished, since I don't think it'll be permanent.

All suggestions welcome!

Love Field is the small one. DFW is the big one.

Love Field is closer to downtown and the "20's-something living" in Uptown, Turtle Creek, Oak Lawn and Downtown.

DFW is suburban and family oriented -- not the ideal place for a 20 year old. You should be able to find something in Irving, Las Colinas, Valley Ranch or Grapevine. But I wouldn't expect to like it much. Frankly, it sounds like you should be moving to Chicago, not Dallas.

DFW actually the bigger one, but Love Airport is closer to Dallas.

Yeah, but Love has the non-stop restrictions. When does that expire?

charliebear414, if you'll taking a flight out Monday and won't be back til Thurs or Fri then why be near the airport? That is, living in town is not going to increase your travel access appreciably, so why not get a good location. Like HOAPrez says, closer to the airport might be more family oriented. You'd spend more time driving to meet up with people on weekends.

You are going to have a problem with the $500 price tag. You might check roommates dot com to see if someone has something to rent out.

The close in airport is Love Field and does fly nationally but must make a stop in the next state. DFW is the big ol' airport which will take half your ground transportation time, from home to boarding, regardless of where you live. It makes travel more an event than a transaction.

I'll bet you can find something for around $500 in East Dallas not far from hopping Henderson Avenue, gallivanting Greenville Avenue, lovely Lakewood or eclectic Deep Ellum. It will be a bit bohemian, no doubt - but it is possible. Look for garage apartments, maybe small duplexes or funky 4-12 plexes. There are some unrenovated apartments in fairly good shape among the more trendy renovated and new ones.

The furnished part is going to be the kicker. Agree with Lakewooder that you should be able to find a $500 studio/garage apartment in East Dallas (look for listings on Craigs List that say East Dallas/ Lakewood/ M Streets/ Henderson Ave/ Greenville Ave) or possibly in North Oak Lawn or near SMU.

Those would all be about a 5-15 minute drive to Love Field. If you need to be close to DFW, then it would be about a 30+ min drive.
