Hi all,
We're looking to go hiking this weekend. We are new to the area, so we are unsure of where to go. We are willing to travel 2-3 hours to find hills/mountains and a forested area. We are looking for elevation to hike. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Beavers Bend State Park in southeast Oklahoma is pretty nice. Nice hills and trails. Should be quite pretty this time of year. It's about a 3 hour or so drive from here.

Eisenhower State PArk, so far north in TX you are at the OK border. Pretty area, not sure of trails. Search the state park web site for info..

I wanted to look up some places to go hiking as well. I have a print out of this and it's very helpful. Here is the link: Dallas-Fort Worth Area Hiking - Hikes

Two to three hours can get you to the Hill Country also. Enchanted Rock,Pedernales Falls, etc. A bit farther is Garner SP & Lost Maples. Don't forget Big Bend & the Davis Mountains out by Alpine.

Dinosaur Valley state park has some nice trails along the river that are elevated and run through the woods. Here's a pic I took there a few years back. It's a pretty short drive from Dallas, near Glen Rose.
