Friend of mine who moved with her family from Arizona wanted recommendation for a psychiatrist in DFW who can accept patients with no medical insurance (their medical insurance has too many restrictions, hence wanted to pay cash for her visits)

Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Any psychiatrist in their right mind* would accept cash instead of dealing with the hassles from an insurance company.

*Irony intended.

I would bet there are many more psychiatrists who DON"T file insurance--you pay up front and they give you the paperwork so you can send it in for reembursement if the insurance does cover it...

I agree, only catch in this one is, if you find a doctor who accepts insurance and cash then generally there billing rates are high (because they use un-discounted billing price they use for insurance billing, meaning if they have $100 has their base price they will bill insurance at a discount of 50% at $50 but for cash patients they still charge $100, but if you find a good doctor who is not filing for insurance then generally there rates are pretty good, I am not saying it has to be cheap but finding a doctor who does both will eventually end up paying unnecessary cost.

I was browsing the web all morning along with my friend and made notes of psychiatrists name, now we need to call them to check their charges. Just wondering anyone in CD has used or know good psychiatrists that does not file for insurance or at least has good rates for cash patients.

Thanks to you both.

Is there a certain area of the metroplex that your friend lives? I work in the field and have a few people in mind that might meet your criteria, but would hate to recommend someone who lives on one side of DFW when your friend lives on the other.

There is a pronblem with federal law and cash payments. Doctors/facilities that accept Medicare cannot charge anyone less than they charge Medicare. What they can do is accept a partial payment of the Medicare amount and then eventually write off the balance.

Yes, one more example I can give is: Several lab work was done one day and the actual bill was around $800 by the lab. After the discount lab got paid less than one-third from the insurance company. In this scenario if you are going as a person willing to pay cash they are going to charge you $800 not the discounted price. Hence my original question of looking for someone who does not file for insurance. Thanks.

Hello! I am also interested in finding a psychiatrist who can see me without insurance. Do you think you could help me find someone? I live in Balch Springs right now, but in October, I plan on moving to the Grand Prairie area. I've taken methylphenidate for a long time then went without it the past 2 years (due to insurance and side effects). I want to try it again, but with an extended release type to evade side effects. Also, I had lab work done sometime in 2011- do you know if I'd need to get that done again before I could be prescribed anything?
