We've been living in the Dallas area since 2001 and as we were driving on Jan 1, 2001 from San Antonio to Dallas, there was snow on the ground sometime after Waco. I believe it has snowed every year since we've been here. I don't know about before 2001.

I'm a native Texan and born and bred Dallasite and I too would NEVER tell ANYONE that it never snows here. I know it snows here. Some years we might only get some ice. Last year was just way past abnormal. I have NEVER seen anything like that in my 40+ years living here.

Actually, the ones that say it does not snow here and is always "hot, hot and hotter" are the transplants that grumble all the time, complain nonstop and are just generally unhappy campers no matter what . One can find plenty of evidence of that right here on C-D.

It definitely snows here. Just not very often and not a lot (usually!) We will see some snow every year, however. That said, my son, for example, born in 1984, had never seen more than an inch of so of snow until he went skiing in Breckenridge, CO at age 15. Now last year, we did get several inches (about 8-10 inches in places, if I recall correctly) but that it pretty unusual for Dallas.

I see a lot of 'historical' pictures in the course of living in a historic district and serving on the alumni association of an 82 year-old school. Many times the only pictures ever taken of a house were because it snowed. That relatively rare and delightful event usually inspired the photograph.

The thing is, I don't remember much snow from the 80s and 90s. Mostly 2-3 ice storms each year, which look like snow, but are a totally different monster and are truly dangerous. This past decade though has seen multiple actual snow events. I think the ice storms are a lot more normal than the snow we've had in the 2000s.

Love, love, love that it snows in Texas. It's such fun and ever so beautiful and much nicer here in the Winter than in southern California where Winter is just too warm. I'm incredulous that so many Texans I know don't like the cold weather and occasional gloomy-looking days.
