I live in FM so my opinion may be biased. I base my opinion with supporting facts :

# Flower Mound schools are far better then Coppell (specially High Schools). The Elementary & Middle schools are equal or better. All FM schools are exemplary.

# FM is the 2nd safest Town in US (latest FBI Crime report for Towns with 50,000- 99,000 population)

# More value and newer house for your $$$

# More value for your HOA payment (eg: Master planned community like Wellington in FM). Just compare the facilities you get for a HOA payment of around $ 650 per year.

# More running, biking & scenic trails. I am a marathon runner and the running/ biking/ scenic beauty was an important consideration for me as well.

# Lower Property Taxes ( 2.1 % Vs 2.6 - 2.8% of Coppell)

Coppell location is more central than FM but it depends on where your work location is. For me FM was actually closer to my work than Coppell . From future job perspective, any other location around DFW will add 10 mins to my commute each way compared to Coppell. The DFW connector project when completed will further ease traffic and open newer economic activities around mid cities so FM will benefit directly/ indirectly.

You can't go wrong with either. School ratings change yearly but both cities have excellent schools. FM has better running trails but Coppell will change that in a couple of years with their announced master-plan. Primary consideration should be your commute time to work.

Grapevine also has excellent running trails, both at Lake Grapevine and in the SW part of town. We have excellent schools, very low crime, and lots of housing in your price range. NO HOAs, and the lowest property taxes in Tarrant County!

As a former resident of Coppell for 10 years, I liked Coppell however I was single and lived in a townhome so I didn't have a house and wasn't worried about schools, etc, even though the schools in Coppell are very good. It was very centrally located which made it easy to get to pretty much anywhere in the DFW area but the dowside was that the taxes were extremely high..and I mean ridiciously high. As for houses I think you will get more house for your money in Flower Mound because Coppell is pretty much built out and homes for the most part are expensive. I can't speak for FM but the trails and parks were great in Coppell. They were clean, safe and always had people there so I was never uncomfortable.

As others have said, more house for your money in Flower Mound. Other than that, you can't really go wrong with either. Both are very nice places to live.

I think the schools in Flower Mound are a little more consistently good than the schools in Coppell, but it's by a very small amount.

Coppell is more convenient to Dallas, but Flower Mound definitely has a more "neighborly" feel to it. You'll run in to people you know a lot, since it's really not that big a place.

One thing I like about Flower Mound (and this may be true for Coppell, but I am not for sure) is that everything you need is right there. There really isn't any reason to leave. There is shopping and grocery stores and department stores and basically anything you need within a few minutes drive. Coppell may have that, but it never seemed that way to me.

They are both great places to live. The schools are pretty much the same (excellent) and everything else is pretty equal. Coppell is closer to Dallas while you will get a little more home in Flower Mound for the money. Flip a coin because you really can't go wrong with either.

I moved here a few months ago and we looked into both FM and Coppell. We decided on Coppell for its location and easy access. I can literally get on 121, GB turnpike and I-30 in 5 minutes or less from where I live. The airport is a short 15 minutes drive and downtown Grocery stores and shopping centers are within blocks including a major mall. But again thats juts my opinion.

You cant really go wrong with either one. I'll agree that FM schools are probably *slightly* better than Coppell schools, but really not by much. Both districts are excellent.

Major factors to consider outside of schools and recreational facilities (which I pretty much believe are equal):

--The commute out of Coppell might be significantly easier depending on where you work.

This is true and was the deciding factor for my parents

--You would be EXTREMELY lucky to find a house in Coppell with a decent size backyard, especially with your budget. If you want a back yard at all, Flower Mound is a better bet.

Like others have said you can't go wrong with either. However you will be hard pressed to find something in $250-300K range in Coppell (within Coppell ISD). Coppell is definitely more central to Highways and both Dallas/ Ft. Worth than Flower Mound. Also the construction doesn't help with commute. School/ parks and other things are almost the same.
