So I've seen the visualizations of what the new I-635 will look like--highway on top of a highway, etc. Has this been completely approved and is it what they will be starting construction on soon?

I cant imagine how awful that highway is going to be for the next 3-7 years!

The visualization is the final design that will be built, but with a nice aesthetic. You're right, tollway with freeway on top.

Default Big Dig II

I gotta give them credit for thinking outside the box but what they're planning to do to 635 is going to end up being a huge boondoggle, and you and I are chipping in almost half a billion dollars to finance a portion of it.

Plus, after we've paid for 1/4 of the project, the toll lanes will have the highest speed limits and we'll have to pay (again) to get anywhere fast.

Not only is a transportation nightmare (roads on top of each other???!!!) with a variable toll that can reach up to $11 dollars at peak times. It is an urbanism detriment to our city.

I cant believe in such a progressive city, NOONE thought of putting a DART rail connector between the Blue and Green lines. With CNN reporting that gas should be reaching $5 dollars in the next few years, why not add a mass transit alternative to this congested corridor.

This project could have catapulted Dallas urbanism. However, the way its layed out...its just another suburban highway but in steroids.

I'm sure that a lot of people thought about that possibility. But if the funding isn't there, it isn't there.

Maybe TxDOT and the NTTA will do what TxDOT and the HCTRA did for the I-10 west expansion in Houston. They reinforced the freeway columns to be able to hold a light rail train in the future.

Really?

Wow, I didn't know that little tid bit of information, but I did know they planned on laying out rail there in the near future.

What I wanna know is how come DART has waited so long to add a line to D/FW Airport & through North Dallas on to Addison, West Plano, & beyond, all needed areas for expansion & far more critical than the I-35 & South Dallas lines IMO.
