Hi, What advice if any can you give me about moving from New York to Plano?
My wife and I visited here in August and we loved it. How's is the economy? I am a Trained Chef who owned his own Pizza/Restaurant for 20 years. I am willing to work hard for someone in the business. We just want to move to a nice area and be part of the community in a positive way. Please help anxious/nervous. Thank You

Yes, Dallas is a good city for restaurants, but I have yet to find good pizza here.

Moving to Plano is a great idea. That is an middle to upper middle class suburb in Dallas/DFW, but compared to New York housing prices will be nothing to you there. And also, there are zillions of restaurants (and many great ones in Plano) AND the restaurant industry is one that seems to always be hiring ... so you will probably have little trouble getting a job here. Good luck!

Vickery park in Plano, check it on either Monday (half price pizza day) or Tuesday (half price food day), great atmosphere, great servers and great pizza.

That said OP, there's nothing better than more pizza places so let me know when you open shop in Plano and I'll be there

Word of advice..If your looking to buy a home, take a good look now at the property tax rates now so you're not surprised (in a bad way) later. Property taxes are high in Texas, enough so that you would most likely have to adjust your expectations of a home.

Otherwise good luck, and if you open up a joint post it here. I am moving there from Boston (eventually) and I am SURE the pizza stinks in Dallas compared to the Northeast. Sigh...Something we just have to be willing to give up I guess. Imagine bringing a place like Lombardi's on Mullberry to Dallas? I bet it would do AWESOME in DFW!

Long live delicious Pizza-PIE!!!

Plano is a great city, we relocated here from the Midwest a little over a year ago. The economy is great, it's safe, people are friendly, tons of restaurants....But the pizza isn't very good. Don't know if you've been here before, but I suggest you come visit first and get a feel for the area. There's also tons of rental properties if you're not ready to commit to buying.

In Texas, there are three areas of food that are seriously lacking compared to the northeast: Seafood, Italian and Chinese (or any Asian food for that matter).

Now Tex-Mex and bbq on the other hand...
