My husband will travel throughout the metroplex (including some trips to Ft.Worth) and will need to access the airport frequently. He will mostly be flying regionally so we're guessing he'll use Southwest (Love Field).
We aren't completely opposed to the suburbs but I really don't want a huge school system. I graduated with 1200 back in my day and I would really prefer a smaller school environment than that for my kids. Our Christmas list looks something like this...

1. Excellent academic schools, without being huge.
2. Quality outdoor life, such as bike and walking trails, lakes, walkable streets.
3. Safe environment.
4. fun, family friendly neighborhood.
5. We have a budget of 500K, give or take a little.

I'm the one from Nyc....The way I'm coming to view the neighborhoods of Dallas is Just like yu described Turtle Creek. The difference in Dallas is that you are still in the city proper....Westchester and Short Hills are at least 40 minutes out of Manhatten, w/o traffic
