Former Dallas resident Georgia Carroll Kyser, who was the model for The Spirit of the Centennial statue in front of the Women's Museum at Fair Park, died Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Georgia Carroll Kyser refused to pose nude for the piece and modeled only for its face.Kyser, the wife of the late Big Band leader Kay Kyser and a leader in the Chapel Hill historic preservation movement, was 91.

"She always used to tell us, once you're a Texan, you're always a Texan," said youngest daughter Amanda Kyser of Sag Harbor, N.Y.

...Covers of Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal and others followed, with sittings for photographers such as Edward Steichen and Horst P. Horst. Hollywood beckoned as well and she signed a contract with Warner Bros. She appeared in 14 films and become close friends with many top actors, including Lucille Ball, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Alan Ladd, Dinah Shore and Edgar Bergen. She went on dates with Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Stewart and Howard Hughes.

In 1943, Mrs. Kyser became a featured vocalist for band leader Kay Kyser, who also appeared in movies...
