We had 3. The middle one was for about 2 hours from about 830-1030. It got down to 58 in the house. We were at the Walmart at Garland and GBTP when the Walmart had another rolling blackout.

Rather than ERCOT rolling blackouts all over the state WHY hasn't ERCOT had rolling inspections and improvements to facilities to insure they would be prepared for temps that really are no lower than they were last year?

Failure on behalf of ERCOT. Time for some legislative hearing to determine responsibilities.

We actually have not seen temps this low in 20+ years. On top of that they usually only last this low for a day or two....... we are going to have 4 straight days of below freezing temps.

Mo2-I agree that this weather pattern is unusual for us and lasting longer than bad weather usually does--BUT plants that have water-carrying lines exposed to extreme cold AND not insulated--
give me a break--that is just someone not taking care of business--
I think some of these plants have probably done the same thing as other business and let people go--maybe lot of their lower level "grunt" workers even

It would seem prudent to me if you managed an operation of such a large size and and so necessary to the public that you would have a plan for how to prepare for extreme conditions--whether it is very cold weather or hurricanes that might come your way...after all most of us were taking precautions in days leading up to this--
we had our faucet protectors on for a while--because of the first cold snap coming through weeks before

and what we definitely DO NOT need is more legislative hearings from guys who can't tie their shoes half the time...

couple we know who had the rolling blackouts effect their Colleyville house and lost heat because of problem with gas transmission lines from Atmos were looking for some fast food last night on Hwy 26 --lots of fast food places, couple of restaurants in big shopping center but they were all closed--
probably because of the blackouts making it difficult to run their business and serve customers

My outdoor digital therm runs about upper teens for the over night. I do recall ice on the ground last year.

And, rolling blackouts were on day ONE, not day four.

WHY weren't power plants prepared? Are the children in charge?

Some homeowners seem to be upset that Cowboys Stadium didn't have to deal with blackouts when Arlington was having them. It's understandable why Cowboys Stadium didn't have to deal with it, but:

Why Was Cowboys Stadium Exempt From Blackouts?

As brief power outages rolled across the state on Wednesday, certain places were intended to be exempt from a temporary loss of electricity. That included hospitals, nursing homes, fire stations, police stations, other emergency response facilities… and Cowboys Stadium?

When officials with Oncor said that the Arlington site of Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV would not be a part of the rolling outages, many residents became furious. But this was not entirely a choice made by the local utility company.

With thousands of reporters huddled in North Texas hotels and thousands of rabid football fans attending the NFL Experience at the Dallas Convention Center, and two football teams preparing to do battle on the field of Cowboys Stadium this Sunday, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee had a big request to make. “It is vitally important we don’t have blackouts,” said committee vice president Tony Fay.

Fay asked the City of Dallas, the City of Fort Worth and the City of Arlington to ensure that rolling blackouts did not prevent planned events from happening at Super Bowl venues. That news really steamed up some homeowners who were left without power for hours. “We’re not prioritizing,” said frustrated Plano resident Allen Hooser. “Hospitals and the grocery store, which is out. But for a PR stunt, where you can go throw a football, you have power and heat.”

I also heard it was due to the security features already in place and putting them in jeopardy. They were talking to the head of Homeland Security and she seemed to be the one pulling the strings to make sure that power to the stadium was not interupted.

Seriously though....... we really can't complain. We don't live in an area where this is the norm every single winter where we can be without power for days on end because of severe winter storms and everything shuts down. A few hours of a rolling blackout to make sure that everyone had power for the better part of the day....... I'll sacrifice.
