Compare the UP city map to the HPISD map linked above. You can also see that the 4300 (?) blocks of Colgate, Caruth and the north side of Greenbrier are HPISD schools, but city of Dallas. You can also look to see the eastern fringe of UP (mentioned above), north of Lovers, that is city of Dallas, but HPISD schools.

Tread carefully with those "secret" Dallas addresses - some in 75219 are in the Town of HP and some are in the City of Dallas, which means your tax bill goes through the roof.

City of Dallas, HPISD = 2.658% (and half of that only gets a 10% Homestead Exemption break)
$22,500 annual taxes on $1.0M home

Town of HP, HPISD= 1.958% (all at 20% Homestead Exemption)
$15,664 annual taxes on $1.0M home

PS- did a quick search and it's really just the multi-family blocks of 4500 Roland, 4500 Fairway, and 4200 Lomo Alto, as well as the 4200 block of Lakeside (in case you want to pony up $9.0M for 4205 Lakeside)

What do you mean by "and half of that only gets a 10% Homestead Exemption break"? Doesn't the City of Dallas have a 20% Homestead Exemption? Or am I misreading this?

The city of Dallas and the Dallas County tax portions of the total tax bill offer the 20% Homestead Exemption.

The Dallas ISD portion only offers 10%.

Here's a link to the 2010 Tax Rates for all Dallas County entities.

That is correct but a home in the City of Dallas but in HPISD does not pay DISD taxes right? So that home would still get the 20% exemption.

I believe a home in city of Dallas but zoned to HPISD has to pay Dallas taxes, which are higher than Park Cities taxes.

You'd have to call DCAD....I know the 7000 blocks in Dallas (east side of UP, north of Lovers) **CAN** attend the DISD schools they would otherwise be zoned to (Hillcrest HS & feeders) if they don't want to go to HPISD schools. I had a friend's sister who did that so I would guess there's some sort of "dual district" zoning in play there??

I just looked up the DCAD records for 4242 Lomo Alto, a high rise building that is in HPISD by the Whole Foods on Lemmon. Some units are taxed City of Dallas/ DISD, some are taxed HP/ HPISD, some are taxed city of Dallas/ HPISD.....very strange.

If looking in these cross-over areas, I would just caution buyers to confirm with DCAD what the exact taxing authorities are and with HPISD what the boundaries are. Even if there's a map, I would still call to confirm.

Wow that is interesting. I wonder if there was some lobbying going on to get into HPISD for those units that did or if it was just dumb luck.
