I recently got a job in Dallas and plan on moving down this summer from North Carolina. From what I have heard from friends in the area we will want to move in the Uptown, Lakewood area. We don't have too many restrictions on what we are looking for but we do need a house with a fenced in yard that allows dogs. Since we are currently in NC and won't be able to easily fly down often prior to the move I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a leasing agent or someone that can help us finding a rental home that suits our needs. Google doesn't seem to turn up much so I am hoping this can help.

Thanks in advance!

realtor.com is only site we are allowed to post
there are rental listings there
check it out and see the listing agent and check that web site

someone might PM you directly
also might want to check Craigs list--
other people asking about this were told lots of rentals are often just signs posted in yards--not done through listing agent because they can find renters w/o paying those fees...

My wife and I are in a similar position, except she is currently renting a one bedroom in Dallas and I am in TN still.

If you go to my profile and look at my previous posts, you will find I asked a similar question about a week ago and received great feedback. In particular, the realtor.com site is useful. A word of warning: when we first started searching for a one bedroom a year ago for my wife, we would find apartments online and then scope out the neighborhood with google streetview. While streetview was particularly telling (i.e., very bad area of town) in some instances, it was deceiving in others. It is more of a tool to find out if a neighborhood is bad rather than good. With that said, we weren't scouting neighborhoods in Uptown or the 'burbs either ...

If I could jump out on a limb, you are probably of a similar mindset (from the south, Appalachia, etc.) regarding commute time. Here in Knoxville, a commute time of >15min is considered "traffic." The one point of adjustment my wife and I have had to make is getting used to driving. If you are fortunate enough that your workplace is near a nice community, then you may avoid this. Some people may recommend living in Far North Dallas (Plano, Frisco, etc.). This is not bad advice as these are fine places, but it might be more of a shock to people like us who are not used to a 45min commute to central Dallas.

I heard the best place to live is North Dallas or Plano/Fisco area. I am trying to move there from Florida.

I need an affordable apt.

There are many great places. Much depends on where you work.

I moved from Knoxville in 2011. If you have some specific questions DM me.

You won't find much "affordable" in those areas. All are hot markets now. Whatever is cheap is cheap for a reason!

I don't know about that. I thought a lot of people living in the country don't mind 45 mins of commute (one way)

Although it was in an older post, remember that "Far North Dallas" is a specific area of Dallas itself, not Plano, not Frisco! Keep your terminology correct.
