Hello,

I am considering a move to Dallas, from Florida. My business primarily caters to tourists. Are their any "Tourist Trap" areas in Dallas/Fort Worth, which feature cute boutique shops, etc.?

Many thanks!!!!

No, not really. Maybe near the Stockyards in Fort Worth, but there is nothing like that near the Grassy Knoll / 6th Floor Book Depository (JFK assassination sites) or Southfork ("Dallas" TV show).....and not enough traffic to warrant one either.

The West End in Dallas might be the closest thing.

The inside area where all the stores and arcade used to be has been closed for years.

There are shops near the grassy knoll. But one shop is all that they need. Dallas is not a tourist city and there is no market for tourist business. I would not look at any Texas city as such.

Actually, San Antonio is probably a great city to consider in Texas. The Riverwalk and streets around the Alamo are filled with "junk" stores catering to tourists.

If you are looking at starting a business that caters to tourist it would make more sense to look at Galveston, South Padre, and San Antonio. The other cities don't tend to attract tourists generally speaking.

Dallas doesn't have a tourist area like that (like say Miami, New Orleans, or New York does). I can't really think of even one area that has the sort of stores/boutiques you describe. The West End is the closest I can think of to a tourist trap, but its nothing more than about 2 blocks of chain restaurants (TGI Fridays, Spaghetti Warehouse etc.), a country-western store, and a place to rent a segway.

I do think Northpark Mall has a touristy shop or two, but I don't think opening a store in a giant indoor mall is quite what you have in mind.

I think the truth is, is that such stores rely on people walking by and nearby foot traffic. Dallas doesn't have too many walkable neighborhoods where people are just strolling about (except inside a mall). Its more likely that people have a destination in mind and drive to it. Its hard to imagine people purposely driving to a tourist trap boutique.
