Exactly what do you mean by "Ghetto"?

Do you mean scraps of clothing circa 1940's Germany- Jewish Ghetto, or perhaps Polish ghetto?

Ghetto is not a catch-all term for Black and the terms are NOT interchangeable.

I agree I don't like to see a young man's backside hanging out. Also he should not have raised a fuss.

However, the undertones of "I'm surprised his posse didn't scream racism" in and of itself has racist undertones.

Sometimes a banana is just a banana. He was a young, rich guy, not making the best decisions.

And while it's difficult, I've seen myriad folks of different races with the sagging pants look. It's not isolated to Blacks.

Did you read the article?

"According to police reports, Bryant gave a profanity-laced response after he and three friends were asked to pull up their pants to cover their underwear."

So, Ganongrey, you think it's acceptable to be in public with your underwear hanging out? And then pump out profanity at a police officer in a public setting?

You've finally said something that I agree 100% with. Amen.

There was a time when football and basketball players were considered roll models for young people. Many have been. But way too many end up as wannabe gangsters, baby-daddys (for several baby mamas), and drug users.

Grow up, Dez. The NFL morals clause needs to be strengthened. Favre and Rothlesberger are no better in my eyes.

Technically no but generally it is.

Not really. Id say 90% are black and the other 10% are acting like they are

My highschool aged son thinks there may be a law against sagging pants. Not sure. But I did find this:
Barack Obama thinks Dwaine Caraway's anti-saggy pants crusade is a "waste of time" | City Hall Blog | dallasnews.com

So...are you going to call Dwaine Caraway a racist? And Obama ghetto?

Perhaps my responses were a bit to nuanced for some.

I don't like young men having their bottoms hanging out of jeans. I said he should have responded better to the officer hence the "he should not have raised a fuss comment". Reread my comments please.

His choices were to leave the mall or pull up his pants. However, who polices what 'acceptable' is?

And no matter what you believe 'ghetto' is not interchangeable for 'Black'. Not by my standards.

I'm a 30-something professional, I tend more to Zegna or Prada suits, properly
tailored pants and shoes with a fresh shine. Maybe that's the military or the east-coast in me. I think young men should pull their pants up, style is ok, but I don't want to see your crack, let me make that clear.

Still, there is some selectivity at hand. I've seen 'women' with all manner of cleavage put out for public consumption. It just seems that because it's an athlete, a Black athlete, that it raises the pot to a boil.

It don't think wearing 'saggy pants' should be twisted into a racial issue. I've seen people of all races wearing them.

Wearing pants in that manner; with underwear or in some cases an a**crack hanging out, should be banned.

So much ado over pants. Why do people care so much what other people wear?!

The aggressive attitude is another issue but BFD about clothes. Ridiculous fashion police. The absolute contradiction of what should be our #1 value, Freedom.
