Hi! We are moving to Dallas this summer from Charlotte, NC. I was looking at 3 suburbs: Southlake, Flower Mound, and Frisco. Can anyone give me some insight. Am I on the right path? I have a 4, 2, and 1 year old. My 4 year old will start Kindergarten this fall...so schools are a priority.
Thanks,
Angie

What is your housing budget? Where are you commuting to? Schools will be good in any of those towns, so commutes and lifestyle sought should be the deciding factors.

Hi!
Housing budget 400 - 500. My husband's office is in Irvine. He doesn't care about the commute as long as we find a great place to live.

All much more important information needed for anyone to give any answers that would be of value.

Southlake and Frisco are not exactly close to each other either. If the job is on the Tarrant County side of the metroplex then a commute from Frisco would be a major PITA.

IRVINE! That's gonna be ONE LONG COMMUTE!

Or do you mean IRVING?
If so, then X off Frisco and possibly Flower Mound depending on WHERE in Irving the job is. Irving is a pretty good sized city.

So he doesn't care about the commute as long as you and the children are enjoying a house he hardly sees and gets to enjoy. With 3 little ones having your husband closer to home is going to be a HUGE asset. Remember, you are moving to a place where either of you are really going to know anyone. What if one of the little ones gets sick and you need your husband to get off work a bit early and pick up the school aged child and a million other scenarios that can come into play. There is no need for him to have a commute of more than 20-30 minutes MAX.

Hi Momof2dfw!
Thanks so much! Your post made me laugh! I'm a single mom now! LOL!! He's in Dallas 3 weeks out of the month. Seeing him every night would be a dream! We moved from Pa to CO to NC now on to TX...I'm getting used to juggling everything. I do agree with you 100% on all levels!!! I looked into Flower Mound and he suggested Frisco. His office is in Irving not Irvine...sorry.
I'm flying down next month w/him (leaving the kids w/my mom...who's flying down from Pa.) to check out the areas. Colorado and North Carolina were easy to narrow down...this move looks a bit more challenging. Any recommendations/advice...are welcome!

Frisco is an awesome city. But the commute will be MAJOR. W. Plano might be a good start as well as Coppell. Frisco will be at least an hour commute in morning & evening traffic. If both of you are okay w/ that I say go for it. Frisco is worth it. If not the other two are good choices as well.

For Irving, Southlake, Coppell, and the Park Cities (Highland Park ISD) would be best schools and best commute- 5-25 minutes. Frisco could be 60+ minutes in traffic. They are all pricey areas, so knowing budget would help.

I work in Irving near 114 and O'Connor and know people who live in Southlake and Flower Mound. Both are decently long commutes, I think about the same from what I recall. Frisco is really not a good option when you have Southlake and FM in the mix.

Your money will probably go further in Flower Mound.

Look in Grapevine, Coppell and if you can find something you like in your budget add Southlake. These would put him w/ a decent commute and in very good areas w/ very good schools. No need to do the long commutes at all as these are all good areas, good schools and homes in your price range.
