My girlfriend and I are relocating to Dallas next month, I will be working at UT Southwestern. Unfortunately, I've never been to Dallas and will be coming out to visit once briefly before I move. I'd like to be in an area that has:

1. Lots of beautiful Scenery. Green grass, lakes, golf courses, etc.
2. Newly built....these places tend to be cleaner and less crime and just plain nicer looking!
3. I'd live to live away from too much noise.
4. Ample parking

I was all set to start looking at apartments around Lake Carolyn, but I heard that partying is a major problem. Is this true??? My girlfriend and I are more stay home and watch a movie or grab dinner at a restaurant types. I like my peace and quiet when I'm at home.

Our apartment budget is $1300 (or less) for a 2 bedroom place. I'm open to both recommendations of apartment complexes or other nearby areas.

I lived on Lake Carolyn before and there wasn't that much partying noise that I heard. The pool scene was nice as well. There would probably be less noise in a unit that doesn't face the interior pool area though.

You've pretty much described Las Colinas, minus the lakes. There are several small ponds and waterways throughout the area. Lake Grapevine and Lewisville Lake are nearby.

You could look for a sublet in LC on Craigslist and try it out short term to see what you think.......

Thanks for the help guys! Based on the feedback we decided to move forward with Las Colinas. Now it's just time find a place and begin packing!

The subleasing thing is also a great idea, thanks!

I would have a back up neighborhood to investigate in case you don't like Las Colinas- the area by Lake Carolyn is basically a glorified office park 1 block off a major highway. It's not much of a neighborhood. People are there during the day for work but a lot of the restaurants close for dinner and it's more of a bedroom community.

Depending on where your job is, you should also consider the Village Apartments in Dallas. It is a huge collection of apartments in northeast Dallas (off Loop 12 & 75 to the south) that shares hundreds of acres of parks, small lakes, jogging trails, a "country club", tennis courts, pools, etc. Some of the properties are brand new or only a few years old and will have private garages for each unit. They have a website if you google Village Apartments Dallas.

Safe neighborhood. Only a 10 minute bike ride or 5 minutes in the car to White Rock Lake, which is the heart of east Dallas' outdoor life (non-motor boats, 9-mile running or cycling loop, tons of park space, etc).

Close to Dallas' nighlife hubs in Uptown, Knox-Henderson, and Lower Greenville that you could go there every day if you wanted to, but far enough away (2-3 miles) that you won't be living next to a bar.

Just saw that your job is at UTSW- it's about 15 minutes from the Village.
