Hi Everyone!

I am spending a few days in Dallas around the fourth of july. Can anyone give me suggestions for where the best nightlife areas are, Upscale areas, ect. I am also planning to relocate to Dallas and would love to know which areas are good residential areas, so I can get a feel for the local vibe.

Thanks so much for the input!

What will your housing budget be, where is your job, and how long in minutes do you want to commute? Can't help without the necessary details.

The big nightlife area is called Uptown. McKinney Avenue is pretty much a 2 mile run of bars, lounges, and hotels with bars/lounges. The West Village is just to the north and should be checked out, along with Knox-Henderson just north of that. These are all within 2 miles of downtown Dallas and where many young professionals live and play.

If you want something a little more off the beaten path, have dinner in the Bishop Arts District, check out some art galleries in the Design District, or catch some live music in Deep Ellum. Again, all within 5-10 minutes of Uptown.

Upscale residential areas are Uptown, Highland Park and Universiry Park, Preston Hollow, Kessler Park, and Lakewood. All are pretty family oriented except Uptown.

The best place to see some great fireworks is around the Addison Airport, find a parking lot, set your radio and enjoy tailgating !

Fireworks in the evening at Lakewood Country Club - you can view them from Country Club Circle or LaVista streets - or Whole Foods Parking lot - many go to Lakewood Theater Balcony Club following..or try Times Ten Cellars for wine - you may be able to see fireworks from the patio.

We were down there last year for the 4th of July. Coming from Wisconsin we were looking for a big drinking festival type of occasion. For some reason half the bars we went to were closed and a lot of them were rented out for private parties! Not sure where the actual party is at, but we couldn't find it!

It's more of a family holiday in my area - however you could find some drinking along Henderson, Greenville Avenue also Lee Harvey's, Gingerman, Ozona or Katy Trail Icehouse might be good...

What about the other nights in town? Where would you suggest for nice lounges/bars nightclubs?

Uptown- try the bar/lounge area at Hotel Zaza. The party moves out to the pool area in the summer. The indoor & outdoor bars at the Ritz Carlton across the street from Zaza are definitely worth checking out, too! Lotus is a lounge with a good but small patio that is a few blocks north on McKinney Ave from the hotels. That's a good upscale list to get you started.

ZaZa is the spot - never been there on the 4th but it's a good bet - you can walk to Ritz Rattlesnake/Live Oak Bar and across the street to Sambuca. The Joule Pool and PM nightclub at Hotel Joule downtown might also be a good bet. Not sure of 'hip' status of Ghostbar atop the W Hotel but it might be hopping for the fireworks watching..
