My husband and I are both young professionals (early 30's), new parents to a beautiful baby girl and are looking to buy our first home. We both work in downtown Dallas and want a short commute. We are both very frugal-we qualify for $340,000 but want to spend around $150,000-180,000 to save/invest the rest of our income. Where would be the safest area with the most potential to maintain value? How is the area around N. Shore/Campbell? We found a home in a cute neighborhood , but the surrounding neighborhoods didnt look so hot.

Any advice is appreciated!

Look just south of UTD- neighborhood by Campbell & Waterview. Great neighborhood for your price range and good access to 75 and shopping at Coit & Campbell.

I actually know someone with a home for sale on Kingswood for $130-140k. It's darling! She is relocating for a job and it just went on the market this week for less than she paid AND she put a ton of money into it. Check it out!

Heights Park in 75080, bounded by Arapaho (north), Belt Line (south), Custer (east), and Thompson (west). I live there and I love it.

Very small sample of what's for sale in my neighborhood.

BigD picked out some really cute houses! We have a bunch of friends that live in the neighborhood around Spring Creek Elementary - west side of Coit between Beltline and Arapaho. Everytime I visit I see people out walking, working in their yards etc, it's a treelined street area. My friends know their neighbors and look out for each other, many have lived there 10+ years. You might want to look there too. Many of the kids walk/ride bikes to the elementary school.

That's also a fantastic area but if the OP wants to stay under $200k, it might not be doable.

Some friends of mine live on Renner & Telecom in Creek Hollow Estates and it is a very nice and newer part of Richardson. They come under Collin County so they have exemplary PISD schools. They have church, day care, schools, medical offices , hospital, shops , Breckenridge park and George Bush Turnpike nearby so really convenient location.

Ditto Heights Park, New Rec center and pool in a couple of years, best era for quality of build on houses in the area, diverse and highly rated elementary school, I can't think of a better value for the buck north of downtown

Thank you all so much! I grew up in N. Oak Cliff (way before it was cool!) and really feel "at home" with the trees and slightly older homes. We would love Lakewood or Oak Cliff, but somewhere safe is way out of our comfort zone financially. TurtleCreek80 - I do believe the home you mentioned is one of homes on our short list...and BigDGeek thank you for clarifying what the Heights' boundaries were b/c I was a little confused; great homes btw.

75080 is Richardson High School, which is exemplary.

Actually it's not by zip code. 75080 extends well north of Arapaho and many (if not all) of the neighborhoods north of Arapaho are zoned to J.J. Pearce. Pearce is also an outstanding school, in fact I would say it and Richardson are pretty much level in terms of quality.
