In the process of searching for a rental home I requested more info on several houses using Trulia.com. I received a response yesterday for one of them. This person explained their situation for why they was renting the house and they requested an application be filled out. I responded back with what we was looking for. They wanted an application filled out, but I did not do this being I know better.

Shortly after that I get another response for another house. The response was identical to the first except for the difference of address and e-mail address. These people are obviously running a scam to get the financial records of possible renters.

Whether Trulia is involved or not I do not know. Beware of any scams similar to this that request personal financial information. I have deleted everything from these people plus Trulia.com.

Of course they're not in on it........they do their best to stop things like this but that is something that cannot be done.....you can't stop all spammers, it's just how it goes online. As long as you're smart and stay weary of who you're talking to, you'll be fine.

Similar to scammers on craigslist or autotrader or anywhere else, its just people trying to get things from you...nothing new here.

You can report those listings, other than that....not much else you can do.

mistake IMO to be using site like Trulia anyway
if you want info about local rentals use a local RE company which a real history

I agree, good old fashioned RE advisors that you can interact with face to face.

Meeting face to face is great if you are there. I am doing the researching 9 hours away from Dallas.

Face to face was a blanket term, I guess I should have said "more personally" rather than physically.

I don't know...I still maintain that the best rentals never make it onto sites like Trulia and Zillow because they are rented before the owner needs to spend the $$$ to list them.

Trulia sucks up to foreclosure.com and so they have many listings with no addresses in order for you to pay for a subscription,

many rentals don't make it to a website because they are locally owned and managed by the owners who just put up a sign in front yard and people who want that area see it driving around or get call from someone they know about it

but even if you are not living locally---
you can still google up some local RE people for info
bs using sites like Trulia

They are obviously most certainly in on it. Otherwise they would put a stop to it by charging a nominal listing fee.
