I am considering going this route. I have a cocker spaniel and he's pretty alert, but not a guard dog by any means. The slightest sound and he's up and running.

No, no, you have it all wrong. See here in MA we trust that The Beautiful People in the Legislature to know better than we do when it comes to this sort of thing, and how to spend our money..Since I am not allowed to shoot anyone, I am thinking I could reason with the perp, maybe even persuade him by telling him how handsome he is. Then again, if he has a mask on that plan is out the window, so maybe just tell him he is loved and I want to help him become a better person while extending a genuine offer for a hug?

You can't even carry pepper spray here without a license...

You would think there would be less home invasions in Texas because of the guns/stand your ground laws.

This.

If it's true that the rates of home invasion in DFW are higher than the national average, especially given Texas favorable stance on guns, this would be evidence against less restrictive gun control laws and higher % of gun ownership being deterrents on such things.

Probably a better option. Most people who have had to kill someone, even out of self defense, have to live the rest of their lives with sometimes debilitating psychological effects. If you get a gun, use it as an absolute last resort.

You can take lots of precautions to make yourself less likely to be burglarized as well.

Well, home invasions *are* extremely rare around here.

Yes, they are rare in the year 2016. And they were rare in 2011 when the OP posted. Not sure why this thread was even resurrected.....

I haven't heard of one in my neighborhood, but I wouldn't have a problem using my Mossberg or Winchester.
