There's too many to choose from is the problem! I have no idea about any of these companies or why one is better than the other. Should I just go down the list and pick the cheapest? Should I just pick Reliant or TXU since I have heard those names more than the others? I do like the idea of pollution free, windmill generated energy.

I asked around to see what companies others have tried to make sure I wouldn't run into issues with the smaller companies. I ultimately picked Gexa and haven't had any issues. So basically, I picked based on a combination of rate and reputation. Just remember to read the fine print.

Live in Denton County and get your power from CoServ. They're by far and away cheaper than everyone on the power to choose website. Their average rate is 7.854 cents per kWh.

Electric companies all use the same metering system provided by TXU. They overcharge every company, no matter what you use. So, there is a class action lawsuit in Nacadoches if you would like to join and fight TXU. Here's a link that explains how TXU rips people off and offers you to join the class action suit. unfortunately when TX deregulated power -- most companies took advantage of the weak state oversight board and the greed of the officers and decided to ramp up charges as much as they could--even selling TXU which should have been seen as against the public good was overlooked in the flight to make a buck...
some towns like San Antonio kept their energy providers regularted and their users have had significantly lower rates and the companies have still made money--which I think speaks to the efficiency of the market place in a profit-driven world...
if there is no oversight to prevent gouging of the public--gouging is the order of the day...
