My wife and I are planning on moving to Dallas sometime in January or February of next year. We will still be renting for a while and I'd like some good resources for finding rental homes. As far as where will be looking, I hope to live in Central Dallas but that really depends on where our jobs are. However, I think I can safely say that we will live on the Dallas side regardless of where work is. When we've actually secured jobs in the area we may take a couple of days and just drive through the neighborhoods we like looking for rent signs but I still want to have a pool of sites that I can pick through.

Neighborhoods we are currently scoping out: Lake Highlands, Lakewood, Casa Linda, North Oak Cliff, North Dallas and Richardson. We need 3 bedrooms and definitely prefer a house but are open to town homes with private yards. Our max rent is $1100. Thanks for any help!

I guess I should have said that I'm aware of Realtor and Craigslist, I was hoping for some sites for locally owned companies.

Pick up a copy of Dallas Observer and look in the back. There are few classified ads still running in The Dallas Morning News. I am a landlord and use craigslist most of the time - I have one there right now. However in Lakewood and East Dallas, you really need to just drive around a look for signs as we have a lot of individual landlords - usually a sign alone will do the trick as most things seem to be in demand so long as they are not grossly overpriced nor have some egregious flaw.

People will have to DM you any other sites than realtor.com as that is the only site that can be posted on the forum.

If the home is listed with a Realtor, your best resource is Realtor.com and Cragislist. They will be listed under other broker's websites but they will just take a few more days to appear and then you may miss out on the rental.

If you decide where you will be looking, your Realtor can set up a search for you in the MLS and you will instantly be notified when a listing hits the market.

Driving around the neighborhoods is the other option if you are local particularly for the Lakewood area, Forest Hills. Good rentals don't last a long time there.
