I had my foundation fixed a number of years ago.
It got expensive real quick.
Find yourself a reputable foundation company
The structural engineer is about $500.00 for the report.
The low end concrete piers ran approx. $350 per beam.
The helical piers probably double the price.
Parts and Labor was in the multiple of thousands of dollars depending
which pier system you want installed.

The Engineer will come out with the fancy machine and measure the level of the foundation
at several points in the home. The Engineer or foundation company can tell you how many
units you will need to get the problem corrected.
You will also need to get the Plumbing tested within a slotted time period or else
it will void the warranty on the foundation work. Of course the salesman will tell you to keep
the foundation wet and suggest you purchase soaker hoses for around the yard.

It depends on what kind of foundation. Some kinds of foundations and individual can work on.

Dry weather can be an issue.

I would study as much as possible via books, youtube, specialized forums even if you dont plant to do it yourself or it a foundation that you can.

People really do work on the old pier and beams with some success. if you do jack a pier and beam do it slowly a few turns at a time over quite awhile using bottle jacks. Old timers really did take care of thier pier and beam foundations, and people still to work on thier own pier and beams today. But most success is for old frame houses on pier and beams.

There are some good books out there.

There can be dangers such as gas and water lines. These can be lethal in the case of gas or do an incredible amount of damage in the case of water pipes breaking.

Also look out for brown spiders.
