As others have said, they are everywhere. They are particularly common in older homes, such as yours.

Nurse, until (if) your landlord takes care of extermination you can take measures of your own.

You want to spread around some Boric Acid. It comes in a tablet form or powdered and can be found at Home Depot or some other stores. The powdered comes in a plastic bottle, about a quart size.

Spread this stuff along cracks under sinks, along base boards, the back end of drawers, behind the fridge and stove, between the gap of the dishwasher and base boards, any other gap between the inside and outside where you could fit a penny. Anywhere moisture might accumulate or wood might hold moisture. You don't have to put it on thick, just a light spray or puff from the bottle.

Keep the stuff away from food stuff, children, and other pets.

Call Eco Safe to exterminate - no strong chemicals. We have quarterly service and don't have any bug problems. Before we got onto a regular exterminator schedule, we had some problems.

My suggestion is to get the powdered boric acid and mix it with sugar and cocoa. I think it's supposed to be 4 parts boric acid, 2 parts sugar, and 1 part cocoa. That has worked for me in the past. Just don't put it too close to the sink because if it gets wet and dries out, it'll become brittle and hard to clean up.

The really big roaches are also called water bugs and usually live outdoors. The drouth and heat is sending them indoors. I think most of them come in through the garage.

If I see the little ones I call exterminator. The big ones I hit with raid and so far usually after about of hunting them down the war is over in a week or two.

This post is cracking me up. Roaches are very common in the South. My last apartment became infested when the neighbors moved out and all the bugs decided to come visit me. If you are renting, let your landlord know ASAP and you will need someone to come spray every 6 months. Im surprised that wasnt discussed during the leasing process.

I go organic on the big ones (palmetto bugs) - rubber bands! I have plenty of size 82 on hand, very effective and reusable - one shot from 4-5 feet away and you are done. Don't have any problems with small ones since I don't feed them.

Incorrectly. Actual water bugs swim around in lakes and ponds. Cockroaches aren't bugs at all.
