I have been here for a week on business, and I must tell you, I have no idea why Dallas is so popular. There is nothing redeeming here, it is HELL on earth. I am leaving today, god help all of you who live here, it is a disaster. I have never experienced heat of this magnitude and by the looks of it their is no end in sight. I feel sorry for the drought stricken areas, Texas is a mess. Cannot wait to get back to 90 degrees in Atlanta with lots of rain forecast.

Where in "Dallas" have you been this week? Location? Where have you eaten? What have you done? Weather aside, Dallas is not a "disaster" if you're in the right part of town.

Conversely, I was just in Atlanta two weeks ago for work. My entire exposure to the city was staying downtown and shuffling back & forth to the Americas Mart every day. My hotel was on the "wrong" side of downtown. I had to eat dinner in the CNN food court one night because it was super sketchy around my hotel and I didn't want to walk back alone at night. Oh, and it was muggy & humid as hell there. Miserable.

HOWEVER- I know there are absolutely wonderful / beautiful neighborhoods in Atlanta (Buckhead, Midtown, etc)....I just didn't happen to see them on this visit. Perhaps your Dallas experience has been like my Atlanta one was? Just tossing that out there......If you've been stuck out in the burbs or at the airport or at the Dallas Convention Center and you haven't explored some of the better parts of Dallas, then yes, I can totally see why you THINK Dallas sucks.

PS- regarding weather. You DO know we're close to breaking 30-year heat records this month, right? It's not always this hot. June was 6 degrees hotter than LY and July is tracking about 10 degrees hotter. Weather-wise, you just crapped out on picking the summer/ month to come to Dallas.

Do you remember what hotel you stayed at, if you don't mind my asking?

It has been especially hot. HOWEVER, I must admit that every year between July and September DH and I have serious "where to retire to" conversations. We also go to Colorado, California and Santa Fe during this time. Disappointed this year that all the hiking trails were closed in the Santa Fe area this year due to drought. The days were hot but evenings, nights and mornings were so pleasant last week when we were in Santa Fe! Once October hits in DFW, it does get nice again.

People from Atlanta shouldn't be throwing stones about drought conditions, as, knock on wood, you're only 4 years removed from droughts that were so bad you were reusing bathwater...

If you hated Dallas so much, well, that will make the decision that much easier if you ever have a job offer in the area...
