or at least suspect because someone told you they witnessed first hand, to gain status, monetary gain and popularity all under the guise of doing good, what would be your responsibility? What actions should be taken? I did not see this but told and I have been very torn, never speaking because I did not see it... though it has really bothered me.. Food for thought... wanted to pose this here to see what reactions.

Moderator if you wish to move- do so- I only put it here due to I live here and it has happened here.

The internet really doesn't provide as much anonomity as people think (unless you're really, really good), so be very careful about posting any accounts of events that someone might consider libelous (let alone second hand accounts). It's always possible there is another explanation. Better to report it to someone that is better positioned to look into it (the police, if it involves illegal activities, the press, if it involves unethical activities, especially if it's a public official). Too many shysters out there ready to help generate additional courtroom traffic at the drop of a hat...

That's nonsense. A lawyer has to make money taking a case. The likelihood of the OP actually having any money to satisfy a judgment, added to the fact that there is no damage, makes it very unlikely that anyone would sue over it. The fear of litigation is irrational and based on urban myths and half-truths.

I suppose that's why the Texas legislature felt the need to pass Anti Slapp legislation this year unanimously?
