Sweet Georgia Brown's in Oak Cliff near the intersection of Jefferson and Ledbetter.

For cheesesteaks, in Lakewood there's a place called the Philly Connection on Gaston. And stop by the C*ck (didn't realize that word was blocked) n Bull afterward. I'll probably be there .

DH adores the cheesesteak's at Fred's.

What do you mean by soulfood? I think of that as a Southern thing.

I too love delis and diners. I grew up eating at them on the west coast. I do find DFW to be rather thin on them.

You're right. The map I looked at to double check appears to be wrong (thanks Google!).

If you go to SGB, avoid Sunday mornings unless you like standing in line outside for awhile. And yes, there will be a preacher. When my family comes in from L.A., this is always one of the first places we eat at. They go on and on about how they can't get Soul Food like this in California.

Another Soul Food place is Mama's Daughter's Diner. It's northwest of downtown in an industrial area off Irving Blvd. It was pretty good, but the clientele stole the show.
