Maybe they should have hired actors from Texas to make their accents more authentic. You'd ever stop to think about that? Dallas is after all a hotbed to shoot television shows & movies in the state right?

I'm watching it now; I DVR'd it. This show is abysmal. Truly and utterly awful. It's insulting.

It probably hits a little to close for comfort for some. Dead on for others.

It's like that time when I was watching 'Law and Order:SUV' and then went to New York. Damn, I was surprised! Didn't see a murder or rape anywhere in sight, while there. I guess that's how fiction goes.

Almost forgot...'The Sopranos'. Shoot! Where was, Tony, at when I was passing through Jersey? Ah, forget about it

I don't think that matters. There was a TV movie a few years ago set in Houston, starring Houston native JoBeth Williams and she actually had a heavy made-up Texas accent. It would have been more believable had she just spoken naturally.

I watched GCB. It had funny moments, other times insulting. Yeah but we're told to lighten up, right? When other "groups" get insulted heads roll and apologies are issued. But never mind. I'm not getting into that.

Anyway, I felt I'd seen it before. It was a bit trite. Those who disliked it might find it amusing that its ratings were pretty modest especially after all the hype. It'll probably fall further in the following weeks. GCB probably won't get a second season.

Sure, elements were exaggerated for dramatic purposes but the responses are also demonstrate an element of denial. Dallas residents do have accents. Their southern accent is subtle and not as pronounced but to outsiders, it's most definitely present. Furthermore, the Christian Evangelical presence is sometimes overlooked by Dallas residents but it is also clearly present and the show captures that well. Dallas residents also downplay their Cowboy culture. Dallas is a wealthy metropolitan city that contains everything other metropolitan areas have but it also has it's unique signature Cowboy elements. People in Dallas drive trucks in addition to luxury cars. They listen to hip hop, pop etc but they also listen to country music. I've seen people in upscale Dallas clubs wear Gucci shirts, Rockin Republic Jeans, and cowboy boots and/or a cowboy hat. You don't really find those traits in other cities outside of Texas and the South.

Dallas residents seem intent on positioning itself as another Los Angeles and this show just destroyed that idea from ever materializing and some don't seem to happy with that. LOL

At one point, you were right. But thankfully, the accents are fading as more people move in from other states and the Cowboy / Evangelical presence is being minimized (Dallas and Collin Counties have more Catholics than anything). My neighbors are all from California and the Northeast, none of them have accents and none of them are Evangelical Protestants. Dallas is changing for the better.

You do realize that to those of us who are actually from Dallas, your remarks are incredibly insulting...right?
