Every retail place I go here is hiring. There are plenty of lower paying part time gigs available in Dallas.

Aldi is better than any old, "lower paying" gig. They're a pretty good company who treat their employees well from what I hear. Their in-store stockers start at up to $17/hr. Not bad for a grocery store chain.

Those are the managers that stock all night then run the store during the day. After they finish stocking they man the deli counter, run the checkout, set up and run the free samples demonstrations, all at once.

I think you should ask your source of information to provide you pay stubs to verify that. Maybe they treat their employees well but not starting stockers at $17/Hr. You have one to many decimal places there.

It is the new norm with businesses to hire part time so they do not have to pay benefits. If you watch the grocery store chains you will also see the vendors are more and more stocking the shelves as part of the contract with the store. For example the bread guys restock the shelves and pull the old inventory, the soda guys, the snack food guys, etc., etc.

Even though they can use full time employees they bring in two part timers instead. On top of that instead of running steady schedules these poor people are worked to death on wild rotating shifts to meet what the store feels are their peak or demand hours. So even if they do take a part time job they can not get another as they can't get steady shift hours. WallyWorld is one glaring example of that problem!

Just a note for 1st timers, if you shop there, bring a quarter and your own bags. You can not get a shopping cart if you don't have a quarter to take it out of the nicely lined cart section. They will charge you for bags if you don't bring your own. Also their paper products are horrible and their frozen family meals are not good buys BUT they do have some exceptional deals.
