Hello,

Me and my husband will be moving from Canada to Texas (*braces for culture shock*). We will be driving from Canada in a large moving truck, and I would like to tow my little truck. I have a 1999 Chev Tracker which I absolutely LOVE. Its cheap on gas, in fantastic repair, and perfect for my lifestyle.. except that it has no AC. I originally planned to sell it and buy something similar with AC in Texas.. but I cant seem to find any similar vehicles that aren't either complete junkers or brand new and too expensive (apparently, 10 year old compact SUVs are rare in Texas? Who knew.)

SO my question is.. is it completely unreasonable to go without AC in a vehicle in Dallas, Texas? I've only ever driven in 100 degree weather once, in Washington .. but it was on a motorcycle (in full black leathers) .. it was hot as hell, but I don't know how it compares to enclosed vehicles.

Thanks for your input

I know one person in Dallas who doesn't have AC in his car and he survives but I can't imagine it, especially if next summer is like this one.

It is absolutely impossible to go without AC here in Dallas. In the summer we have days that are over 100, and more than a few of them. The Interior temp of your car can reach well over 115 while parked long enough for you to go grocery shopping.

I would sell your car BEFORE you get to Texas. There is NO market for cars without A/C down here!!

Yes. You will be miserable, sweaty and nasty. Remember: we had 70 days of 100+ degree days this year, and many of those were 105-107! You really need a car with a/c here. If you try to sell the car without a/c here, no one will buy it.

The interior of a car can go over 140 easily here in TX.

Car interior becomes an oven

Bottom line is, if you have a car that doesn't have AC, you'll really only be able to drive it in the morning with the windows down, or after the sun goes down, and it will STILL be hot.

!00% agree.

A car with no AC is unthinkable as a driver around here.

OP - sell it up there.

...or look into aftermarket A/C installation. Have no idea what that costs but may be worth checking out.

I rarely run the AC in my vehicle and somehow manage just fine. However, TurtleCreek80 is absolutely right about resale. It would be terrible. And from what I remember about Canadian auto prices, you'll come out ahead selling up there and buying something that suits your needs down here.

It would be awful. And other posters are right, you are never going to unload it down here.
