wanabe thugs look for peaceful law abiding places to act out and feel tough. if they try that on the hood they get killed very quickly. kick em out. as for your safety, go before sunset like vampires, our dirty laundry, the kids that have had no parenting, come out at night.

I've actually witnessed a gang fight on DISD secondary school day in the food court around dinner time. No innocent people were hurt, but it was scary.

There was nothing ominous about the LEOS. As I said above, the incidents involved the gang unit. They did not consist of the gang unit.

There were several incidents, but the one that sticks in my mind most clearly is a team of gang squad folks chasing a group of highschool-age thugs full speed through the midway. LEOs were careful to try to avoid hitting fairgoers but the thugs were barrelling through, knocking people aside, over, and down to the ground.

I choose to avoid such drama and such mobs, so I choose to avoid DISD day at the State Fair. Easy peasy.

Why would a background checked, CHL-equipped and -armed, PD volunteer be afraid of LEOs? My DD214 is older than some of the rookies.

The fights are usually between the Sharks and Jets, they argue and I get worried because that can lead to...dancing...

Kids may get into at the fair. It's not organized gang activity and on the rare instances it's occurred, they usually don't involve adults, unless you try to be Billy Badass with your CHL which IS a lose-lose if you try to draw and your life isn't in danger.

Back in my King of Beers days, we were always sent home early on DISD night. We were also made to walk back the the shack/keg truck as a group. The guys who worked the Midway always saw things, but us on Nimitz were fine & usually too busy drinking beer.

I think the elementary school kids have a separate day this year, which is fine by us.
