I'm looking for a place to rent starting in Jan or Mar, as I'm moving to the area with my family! Looking for at least a 3 bed. 1 bath and looking to pay approx $1000.
I don't know the area at all so I was thinking I might want a locator? Any advice?

Where will you be commuting to/from? What's your budget? Are schools a consideration? There are many places not listed with locators. I am a landlord and I never use them for my properties. I list my places on craigslist.com; doesn't hurt to use a locator but you might also try looking for rentals on realtor.com or craigslist.

I will be working all over the area but ideally I would like to live within 10 miles of downtown or closer! Schools are not too important as I doughty that I will stay there,it the same house for more the a few years (once I get the lay of the land, prob find a place that's most Ideal)

look in Richardson, Garland, Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Irving. You will likely find a place in a very modest neighborhood with about 1200-1300 square feet for that budget. Richardson and Garland will have decent schools, the others not so much. Some examples to give you a location link:

As an FYI, a 3 bedroom for $1000 is going to be had to find anywhere, much less 10 miles from downtown if a safe area and decent schools are a priority.
