Folks, I am on a tight budget for under 200K home. Which home builder should I choose before I make the commitment?

What part of the metroplex are you considering?

In Wylie, I would recommend Horizon Homes, they're the entry level product of Highland Homes, one of the best builders in DFW. Dr Horton and Altura are worth looking at as well.

In Carrollton, the only builder within your budget is Dr Horton but they are only building townhomes in a couple of communities. They're not bad builders.

In Lewisville, First Texas Homes would be my recommendation but they are very limited on inventory. Dr Horton is building townhomes there too as well.

Pulte, if they go to $200. Stay away from First Texas IMHO.

Thanks rjl. I really want to buy a new home but most new homes in North Dalllas area are over 200k and up. I cant afford to pay 6-7k on taxes a year. So far i found homes from 170-200k are either in Wylie, Grand Prairie, and Arlington. I have these builders in mind but not sure who to choose: Khov, Dr Horton, Horizons, Grand Homes.

Search each of the builders on this forum, and you'll very quickly find a consensus on who to stay away from. Two of those are in the middle of the recommendation range, one's a bit lower, one's much lower. Only reason we're not explicit about this is the admins have gotten a bit touchy about the negative comments towards any specific entity on a go forward basis (don't think they're deleting old threads though). Can't go wrong with Naima's recommendations though...

I live in a DR Horton home at the upper end of your price range, and I've been very happy with the experience of dealing with them, and with the house.

The only issue I had with the house was a drainage issue in the yard, related to the neighbors behind me, but DR Horton had their people fix the issue under the warranty with no problems.

Good luck!
