Who makes the best tasting cakes that are also elegant and artistic?

Neither. Go to Eatzi's and if you're a chocolate lover, try the Chocolate Oblivion Mousse Cake. Guaranteed to send you to oblivion!!!! The Italian cream cake is very good and light and delicious.

I need one of those stickers for my car that say "my money goes to Costco and Eatzi's" next to the 2 college stickers I have now.

Honestly, I prefer Central Market, even to Eatzis. Market Street is just barely a step above a regular grocery store bakery.

You need to go to a real bakery to get an elegant, artistic cake. Society Bakery, Jackie Spratt, AJ's, Stein's, etc. Central. Market and Market Street are good for the basic round or rectangular cakes with consistent basic flavor sand minimal design (think kids or office bday parties, not bridal / baby showers or other fancier events).

I have to say (though I've never had a cake from there) that I find goods that I've got from CM's bakery to be of the very highest quality, esp. considering that it's part of a huge grocery store (albeit an upscale one). Also, looking forward to The Fresh Market's foray into the Dallas market close to my home in the coming year!

I agree completely with this, though I will never use AJ's again after the disaster we had at our wedding. We've used them for years and years as a family, but after our last issue we will be taking our business elsewhere. Good luck OP.

This is for graduation down in Houston. Long story, try to shorten it..I saw on the web that there is a Central Market down in H-Town. I am vaguely familiar with Central Market, never bought from their bakery before. I am though familiar with Market Street Bakery. I just needed a comparison. Turtle, thank you for the shops mentioned. I love Society Bakers. Niama, thank you for Eatzies, I love that place too!

Just a suggestion, but maybe post on the Houston board about some good local bakeries? I love supporting small business!

Fiesta Mart. Much cheaper and of the same or better quality. They're all over Houston.
