Hello...

I will be moving to the dallas area in a month. My job is moving me to carrolton and I am looking to be close to the nightlife and professional adults. I don't want to commute further than 25 min for work.I would like to be near restaurant, movie theaters, shopping area, etc. I come from Chicago and spent some time in New York. I like the big city living and do not want to be bored. I want to be able to come and go safely, so maybe a high rise with a door man. I will be traveling up to 50-70% for work. I don't want to spend more than $1000, since I will not be there that often. I was told to check addison and uptown. Thoughts? Help?

Skip Addison & go with Uptown. May need to look in Oak lawn neighborhood (75219- stay east of Tollroad & north of Cedar Springs if west of Oak Lawn Ave) to stay under your $1000 budget.

Agree. Go with Uptown and skip Addison. Coming from New York and Chicago, Addison will feel too suburban. But it's going to be tough with a $1000 budget.

I vote for Uptown also. Knox-Henderson on the north end of there might be less expensive and the Henderson side has a number of options such as duplexes in addition to apartments.

For a budget of $1000, you might be able to find something downtown as well that fits your needs.

Curious though...is a 25 minute commute from Uptown, etc. to Carrollton realistic with the 635 mess? I'm not familiar with alternate routes. I'd also suggest Uptown, Lower Greenville, etc. though.

You wouldn't use 635 from Uptown. You'd take 35 north to Carrollton.

Another vote for Uptown. Plus the drive would be against morning traffic with all the suburbanites driving south to downtown for work.

Ah, that's right.

True. Although I find my "reverse" commute on 75 is fine in the morning, but always hell coming home. Might just be a 75 thing, though. 35 isn't exactly known for its quickness though.

Uptown is likely out of the $1000 price range, unless you get really lucky on a 1 bedroom. There are a few non-gigantic low-rise units you, some off Cole that you may be able to find.
