I am originally from New York. I have lived in Dallas since 1996. I lived in Charlotte for 8 months in 1994-1995.

Charlotte is a lot different than when I lived there. It seems a bit more - "cosmopolitan" today. However, it is a lot more "Southern" than Dallas and smaller too.

Dallas really isn't Southern or Southwestern but average America, IMO.

People in Charlotte weren't fond of "Yankees" back then. I found the people to be, in general, pretty dumb.

Forget the job situation - you will fit in much better in Dallas.

We debated the same 2 places,Nc and Tx...Dallas 100 percent.Stronger economy, central location to many places around he country, pretty much superior.I am sure many will follow with other reasons why....

I've lived in DFW on and off since 89 and like it. When I lived in the northeast I SO wanted to live in the Carolinas, for weather, cost of living. Honeymooned on Hilton Head and had business trips to Charlotte. Good friend lives in Raleigh and I liked that area. I really don't think you can go wrong on either place, however I agree with other posters that the job situation might be better here in DFW. Depends on your line of work.
It's hot and dry here, "cooler" but more humid in NC. We have the WORST clay soil. I think they have sandy loam. We have mesquite trees and live oaks, they have pines. We have about 3 1/2 seasons, I think they have 4.

If where I lived was based on weather & scenery alone, I'd pick Charlotte or somewhere in NC.

But it isn't! I don't know specifics on the job market and wont pretend to.

As a native Charlottean who is trying to get the h#ll out of Charlotte...Dallas all the way.......Local economy is more diversified, More career opportunities, and a the cost of living is doable there as well....More of a REAL city than Charlotte will ever be. Please believe.

I lived in Charlotte in '96-'97 and now will be relocating to the Dallas area in a couple of years. I'm really hoping that Dallas is way cooler than Charlotte was back then. I found it to be small, insular, and provincial. Not the kind of place that's welcoming to outsiders.
