I drove:

A 1990 Chevy Lumina (nicknamed "the Spaceship") until it died. Then I had nothing to drive but my parents 1994 WHITE 15 Seat Ford Club Wagon. I was overjoyed when they bought a 2000 beat up Ford Taurus for the kids in the family to drive--it is what my other siblings have been driving since.

I survived. I got a few comments in good fun, but none of my friends made fun of me. We lived in a nice area (Wellington) as a family of 7, and while we had older cars and no spare bedrooms, it wasn't a big deal. Sure, there is some pressure, but the ability to deal with it depends more on your kids than the environment. If they find a crowd that respects them, they'll do fine. West Flower Mound is a little more ritzy, but my brother still has friends that live in homes that could be considered estates and they are down to earth. Depends on the family, not the home.
Your experience seems to be pretty close to the norm from what I have seen. Very rarely have we encountered snootiness or keeping up with the Joneses in FM.

you sound like my son--he inherited my Ford Club Van--with two bench seats--
He swears that is what inhibited his dating in high school...
I'll admit to parking in the back of the parking lot... I was still thankful to have any car to drive, though!
