I am going to be staying in downtown Dallas next weekend at the Magnolia Hotel. Any ideas about parking that would be less than $24 per night (that is what the hotel charges)?

Anyone have clever ways of parking for free in or near downtown Dallas? For example when my husband and I go to downtown San Antonio we park in the King William district for free and just take the trolley or walk into downtown (about 10 min. walk)

Thanks in advance for any ideas. This is our first time to Dallas!

Don't know about free parking but there's a garage one street over (Jackson) and about four blocks to the north (away from the Trinity River/Grassy Knoll) @ St. Paul St. I used to park there for four bucks a day, left my car overnight one time. The gates close at 9 p.m. but open early. I don't know about weekends. Trust... but verify.

Google map labels it 'Platinum Parking'

For that mid-nite snack.

Going to be sleeping under the Red Devil over Dallas.

Do you even need a car?

If you are flying in, take the TRE (Trinity Railway Express) downtown and go from there.

Just find a spot on the street. I think the meters are free on the weekends.

Meters are not free on the weekends, unfortunately.

Luckily there are plenty of surface lots in downtown which will be able to accommodate your car for much less than $24/night.

Default Dart

I know its an old thread, but in case anybody else stumbles on it, you could use DART rail. DART doesn't allow overnight parking in its lots, I'm not sure if they enforce it, but there are several you could park near and take a train into downtown. The Galatyn Station on Red Line in Richardson is by hotels and businesses in a very safe neighborhood, The Lover's Lane/ Mockingbird areas near SMU have lots of street parking and businesses with garage's plus its a cool area to check out. I mostly know the Red Line because I live in Plano, but I'm sure there are similar other stops along the other line. Dart rail is super convenient, not as frequent as other large cities, like Chicago or DC. But usually you don't have to wait any longer than 10 minutes for a train. $1.75 a ride isn't bad either. Just sayin' If I didn't need my car while I was downtown Dallas I would park in a safe neighborhood by a DART station and take the train.
