I am often amazed at how "quickly" I need to refill my car with gas down here, then realize that going from Addison to Colleyville and back (for example) means I've covered ~50 miles. It doesn't feel that long because it's a fast drive most of the time.
I use to drive from the Lakeview area in the city to Hoffman Estates. It was a miserable existence. Now I drive from East Dallas to Legacy/Toll in Plano. Misery loves company I guess. It takes a while and I agree w/ other posts that it's the distance. it usually takes me 40-45 mins in the morning. Depending on what time I leave and I can usually get home in about an hour in the evening. In Chicago, my commute could easily take up to 2 hrs.

Dallas traffic can't hold a candle to NYC, Atlanta, or especially LA. And in fact during the working day outside rush hour, traffic in central Dallas is very light.

Agree. Traffic in Dallas can be bad, and has at times rivaled some of the above cities. But those were anomalies and more the exception than the norm. Is traffic heavy? Sure, but compared with (in my personal experience) ATL or LA, it's almost serene. Moving above 35 mph during rush hour would be heaven there for more than 100 yds. Here I can commute down either 75 or the Tollway and cruise for several miles at 65+(much more on the Tollway-it's almost scary sometimes).
