Hi. I'm going to be traveling from Austin to Memphis this week, and it looks like I'll be hitting the Dallas area at around 8.45AM.

I'll be taking 35N/35E/20/635.

Will traffic be totally ridiculous at 8.45 or 9AM?

I can take some back roads, which will add about 30 minutes to my trip. If i'll be in stop and go traffic on the the highways above though, i'll do the back roads.

Thanks in advance.

If you take 35N to I-20E to 635N to I-30E, I doubt you will hit a lick of traffic at that time.
A more direct route would be to take 35N to 30E, but you might hit some traffic as you get closer to downtown. I would stick with your original plan and likely fly through.

Yeah that kinda circumvents the traffic. Just check google maps traffic as you approach. A wreck that causes a nile long traffic backup could happen anywhere at anytime.

Nope, shouldn't be crazy taking your proposed route.

You would likely hit traffic on I-35 south of downtown between I-20 & downtown if you took the direct route. And I-30 can be a bear around downtown, too.

You have chosen the best route. Once you get past 35 to I-20 the coast will be clear sailing.

Thanks!
I'll stick that original route then.

I appreciate the responses.

Default Thanks!

Just wanted to give an update in case anyone reads this thread in the future.

I took the route I listed above, and cruised smoothly past Dallas shortly before 9AM. No traffic issues at all.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for providing that update. So many times an OP needs some assistance, gets it but then is never heard from again.

Knowing your needs were met - and appreciated - makes the effort more valuable.
