Thinking about moving to Texas from Detroit very soon. I would like to know which is a better place to live (dallas or Houston) for to young adults ages 23. Both are girlss with a college degree, one works on a military base, neither has kids. We want to move somewhere affordable and safe and as a good source of jobs light snowing maybe if any very very little. Me myself is in school for business mgnt & is thinking about real estate and modeling. My bestfriend is a broadcasting major. We do like to party so social life is important.

Any information is helpful Thanks!

Dallas. Uptown. Live in the Gables. Lease a C-class from Park Place Mercedes. Never have to go back downriver again.

My vote is for Dallas. Plenty of nightlife there, and as the pp said, move to the Uptown area. It's all hip and happening there, but you will pay more. Unless you're a fan of extreme humidity, I would steer clear of Houston.

Either city would be good for you. You should try to get a job first and let that be the deciding factor.

No more going to Joker's or the Exchange in Windsor however...

But seriously, try to line up a job first. However, the Detroit economy being what it is, you can always secure a job as a waitress, cocktail waitress or hostess and between the two of you, cover rent on a decent place while you try to find a more permanent job. Options are much better here than in Detroit.

Good luck.

Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio are all good cities. You must find jobs before moving though. I recommend a trip to all of the cities first (preferably in the summer) then select and see if you can get a job. All cities are warm, Dallas being the only one that really gets snow and ice. Working in real estate now can be difficult, you would really have to learn the city you are living in. First and foremost, secure a well-paying job, living in any Texas city is not cheap. Buying a home is better than cities like LA and NY, but that is about it. Even jobs waitressing now can be hard to come by especially in younger areas. Texas can be good, but remember you both must have cars, it is hot, and the economy (though better than Detroit, most places are) isn't all rosy and great. But it can be a great place to live.

You are young with no dependents.

Save up 2K each then move. You can work part time waitressing and share a place, then take time to move up to a real job.

I flew into Texas with 500 in cash and just a few clothes over a decade ago and now am sitting pretty.

Good luck.

What bases are there in Dallas or Houston that you could transfer too?

There's a navy base in Fort Worth, but none in / closer to Dallas. No bases anywhere near Houston. There are many bases in TX, but mostly in Central Texas (in & around San Antonio and others about an hour north of Austin) or in very small towns several hours from the major cities.

Sounds like more research is needed on your part.
