These have always worked for me as stocking stuffers:

A certificate to wash and wax your wife's car.

A day off of chores.

A lunch at the park.

A trip to a museum.

I'm sure you folks can come up with a bucket load of other ideas for inexpensive but great gifts.

Scratch off lottery tickets are always great for stocking stuffers and you can't go wrong with gift cards although not personal but they're always welcome. I haven't tried the homemade coupons but it was sooo sweet when I got them from my kids when they were little. I still have them..

My favorite cheap xmas gift rec'd: a basket chock-full of perfume and cosmetic samples. Dozens of them! The cost to the giver was the time spent, over several months, collecting them for me. I enjoyed this so much.

My favorite, ie most-raved-about, cheap xmas gift given: a binder of take-out menus for fast-food and regular restaurants, along with a few gift cards for some of the restaurants. The recipients loved these, and I just wish someone would give me the same!

Gift cards, some from Amex or popular restaurants, can find them at most supermarkets, CVS, Walgreen's.

For ten bucks, you can throw in some Spanish sparkling wine - who doesn't like getting a bottle of 'champagne' for xmas?

It's a tradition here now - a couple of cases go a long way to make neighbors and coworkers smile.

I'll second the champagne/wine idea. We just had some new neighbors move in next door, we brought them a bottle of wine, they reciprocated with some baked goods and a good conversation about sitting down for dinner and drinks after the holidays to get to know each other.

Even if the recipient doesn't drink, they still usually appreciate a bottle of wine for when they entertain company.
