This was definitely a good read. Being in the Northeast for a couple of years mostly everybody I came in contact with considered Texas/Oklahoma as the South for what it's worth.

As someone who is not native from this area and have driven through out the south (from the panhandle of Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas) and traveled to Oklahoma, Georgia and South Carolina, my opinion is Texas has very little in common with much of the south, Texas and Oklahoma are more Plain states and West, and only when you reach the far eastern areas and the coast you do get a little more of a connection with Louisiana. Overall I would say Texas, is Texas, is its own region by itself.

By the way it's a good thing! Texas rocks!

I'm not aware of any ties to Atlanta. What kind of ties are you talking about?

No.

If there were no Mexicans in Texas, Texas would still have 5-10 times the percentage of Catholics as South Carolina, for instance.

Neither am I, and I lived in Atlanta for 20 years. My guess is that this was a blanket statement based on the fact both are booming sunbelt towns with lots of freeways and huge airports.

Dallas is neither southeast or southwest. It's Texas......and yes, Texas is its own region. Has anyone looked at the size of this place on a map?
