Forty years ago Frisco wanted the plant for jobs and the tax base.
Despite the plant being clean and the plant has complied with all requests, the City of Frisco is putting on the brass knuckles.

This is what happens when ignorant people run the city and listen to other ignorant people who moan about something they know nothing about.
This plant and the others like it enabled the US to put in place clean air and water laws and to recycle some pretty awful stuff in a clean way. In fact, these plants are so successful that most of the lead used in the US comes from recycling.

Can you clarify? The papers are reporting that Exide is actually not complying with the requests of the city and are instead asking to be grandfathered. That's actually different thing than complying with all requests.

I've followed this story for years in the news. There are stories that say, "elevated lead levels in the area", followed by stories "no elevated lead levels in the area". Which is it?

Some of that stems from the city, state and feds moving the goal posts around.

Ditto. When Frisco started their housing boom, Exide should have been looking for land further north to purchase to move facilities one day, then sell their land in Frisco for more than they paid.
I'm not against big business by any means, but the plant has now been surrounded by commercial and residential developments, and no one wants to live next to an industrial plant of any kind.

To play devil's advocate: shouldnt the Frisco homeowners have done their homework before buying next to a power plant??? Regardless of the emission levels, I know I sure wouldnt have wanted to live that close to one. It seems a bit silly now to moan about a plant when it was there before you got there. What did they think the plant would emit? perfume from Bath and Body Works?

I agree completely. It's similar to bolts who moved to the mid-cities around DFW and then bellyached about the noise.
