I just went to get tickets to go back home to the caribbean and prices have skyrocketed.

-Not only AA has a monopoly. Due to their bankruptcy they have tremendously reduced flight alternatives.
-Due to the Wright Law, AirTran had to leave operations at DFW.
-JetBlue does not fly to DFW.

My only viable and cheap alternative is Spirit.

Is this how we build a great city? Is this supposed to be the 5th largest city in the USA? Practicaly without international air service?

Anyone feels the same?

I do feel that way at times...we have driven Austin and Houston to get better fares for our family to travel to Mexico and Central America.

DFW needs a new airline with SUBSTANTIAL presence, to provide lower fares to more than just a few cities. Once the Wright Amendment sunsets, of course Southwest will expand at DAL, but I find it hard to believe a low-fare carrier can't make a dent at DFW. Even ATL, with Delta's fortress hub, has significant low-fare competition!

Whats amazing is that a trip from Dallas - Monterrey Mexico(2 hours) ~ $400 AA
Chicago which is farther can be done for at least $150.

In a city where 50% of the population is hispanic or foreign. Why there hasnt been a low cost carrier trying to expand?

What's amazing is that AA shamelessly tries to charge $1400 for a DFW - Las Vegas roundtrip. Coach.

Err - we just flew to and from DFW to LAS on AA for right at $1,400 first class.

Coach was less than $300 - I know because my kids flew steerage.

Portorro -

Have you looked into "air only" fares from charter packages? We have flown "air only" on various charters throughout the years from Funjet, Worryfree, and others into Mexico. Might be avail into the Caribbean.
