I just recently moved from St. Louis to North Dallas. I would love to meet new people outside of work, but I don't know anyone to go out with. What are some great places to go or things to do to meet people while staying safe? I don't want to go somewhere I'm going to get hit by creeps lol.

Default Starbucks

Starbucks is a pretty safe place to meet lots of people, and it doesn't have the "hit on" bar mentality.

meetup.com groups in DFW are a joke. Most are pyramid schemes masquerading as "networking" groups or total meat markets.

Sadly DFW does not. I'm actually thinking of leaving the area; it's that bad. Socializing here without alcohol or Jesus is extremely difficult.

I've been a member of a few meetup groups in the past and they were great ways to meet new people. Even met some long-term good friends.

A few years ago, sure. Now, no.

Don't believe this; it was written by someone who is obviously bitter. I moved to the Dallas are from out of state 3 years ago. I go to the meetup groups and have met some nice folks. Depending on your age range and area of interest. You can find groups that go to restaurants, go for walks on the trails, coffee groups and lots of night life groups. There are many new people moving here from other states so you are not alone. Good Luck!

I'll let this ridiculous personal attack slide since you're a newbie.

Try being a 36 year-old divorced vegetarian Jew (who keeps kosher) with no kids who also does not drink, then tell me which meetup group I should join.

That pretty much rules out bars, most restaurants (since I wouldn't be able to eat the food), and most groups for people my age since they're centered around drinking, children, or the eating of foods that I don't eat.

That leaves pyramid schemes and meat markets, which is about 90% of what I see on meetup.com anyway. Like I said to someone else, 3-4 years ago things were different. They aren't now.
